Roger Tew was enrolled in a Soul Currency class at the Center for Spiritual Living in Campbell River (Vancouver Island, B.C.) when he wrote the poem below for his final class project.
“I didn’t know what to do for a final project,” Roger explained later. “The whole book had been a challenge for me, especially because of my ‘work is not fun,’ so ‘fun will not be fun if I do it for work’ belief system. Chapter 5 (of Soul Currency) broke that belief barrier. I had some piece of doggerel running through my mind and thought I might be able to expand it into a class project. I started, and in less than 3 hours that poem was the result. I even had to look up the meaning of poem, rhyme, doggerel, etc. to figure out what category it would fall under. It seems it meets the definition of “poem.” So that’s what I called it. In the end, Soul Currency got through my barriers and opened me up to a new way of looking at ‘circulation’ and the symbolism of money. My congratulations go to (Soul Currency author Ernest) Chu for a well-managed set of lessons for a difficult subject.”
Soul Currency Final project
I was never an orator, ‘though I had a lot to say
I never was a singer, ‘though I sang songs all day
I was never a musician,
‘though I longed so much to play
I never could stand up and and say
“Look, It’s ME. I count!”
To spread my arm’s way out and shout!
“Come see what I’m about”
I never once threw wide the door
and “towered” as I walked in
I never once strode in, “empowered”
and said “Come. Gather. Listen.”
I have never once, in all my life
Striven to be the boss
I followed on. Did my job,
But knew, inside, the loss.
I’ve ridden on wings of others’ lives
I’ve soared on another’s dream
And always known it wasn’t right
That I’d misplaced my self-esteem
Then Earnest Holmes, the author
and the “maven” of New Thought
opened a door to the Truth of Life
And the answers that I sought.
I settled in, I felt “at home”
with a new-found joy for life.
I spread my wings, I did new things
There was no need of strife.
But ‘reality’ kept creeping in
To my new-found ‘heaven on earth’
Those ‘core beliefs’ of the 3D world
Insisted they had ‘worth.’
Not the least of these, was that nasty tease
that ‘Work’ and ‘Fun’ don’t mix.
‘Twas a ‘rubber band’ on my ‘desire to expand’
As it fed my inner cynics
Then along came ‘maven’ number two
The author and teacher Ernest Chu
His book Soul Currency put me back
In the 3D world on ‘full attack’
Spirit and Commerce cannot mix
Outside of the world of ‘steel and bricks’
My Spiritual World of Truth and Light
Wouldn’t support this Earthly Blight
But I came to see that others could
Consider his thoughts and see some good
So I looked again at my belief,
And sought the ‘thought’ that could bring relief
The answer came in Chapter Five
When a whole new vista came alive
He opened a door that opened my eyes
To the dreams of my Soul, “Adventureprise”
This isn’t the End, it’s just the beginning
It’s not the solution, but it starts a new inning
I’m still at a loss, knowing which way to turn
But I know where to look now, that knowledge to earn
So I start each new morning, with my meeting with Me
The I AM inside that is able to see
What my future conditions could possibly be
And the best steps to take to set myself free
We are much closer now, my I AM and me
As we ponder the future that’s likely to be
If this road is taken, or that track, maybe
But all of them now, lead to the Sea
That ‘Sea of Belonging,’ where we are all One
Where no favor is given to someone’s first son
Where we are all equal, where all ‘Work’ is ‘Fun’
‘Cause Joy, Love and Adventure are the way it is done.

The power of intention never ceases to amaze me.
Three years ago, I bought a really nice suit and, with a smile, told a friend that it was going to be my “Oprah suit.”
Two years ago, one of my Soul Currency coaches, the Rev. Susan Zoller of Atlanta, made me promise that I would take her along when I appeared on Oprah. That possibility seemed rather remote at the time, but I promised.
Two weeks ago, dressed in the Michael Kors suit that I bought three years ago, and accompanied by Susan, I appeared as a guest on The Oprah Show.
Oprah will air the segment, titled “Do You Believe in Miracles?” on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. Eastern. I hope you watch it.
This experience confirmed for me the power of intention. But it also (paradoxically) delivered a lesson in “letting things unfold through Spirit” vs. “making things happen.”
I had tried countless ways to get Oprah to read my book, Soul Currency, and nothing had worked. I had all but let go of my desire to be on the show, as this is her last year on commercial TV, and getting invited as a guest is next to impossible. I had tried to make it happen through people who knew Oprah. Despite the book’s great reviews and star-studded endorsements, all of my “leads” led to dead ends. I had decided to let go of my dream.
So maybe you can imagine my surprise when one of The Oprah Show’s producers called me about three weeks ago and invited me to be a guest. I could not believe my ears. The producer said they were putting together a show about miracle healings and, in particular, John of God, a Brazilian healer I know well. I have made five trips to Brazil since 2002, and I have had an inoperable tumor removed from my spine by John of God. (In 2007, I wrote about it here: https://soulcurrency.wordpress.com/2007/09/26/the-miracle-of-faith/)
A week or so later, I was notified on a Monday to be in Chicago by Tuesday for a late-morning taping on Wednesday.
And so I experienced a perfect unfolding of Spirit, effortless and amazing, and got to be a guest on The Oprah Show.
Oprah interviewed me and showed a videotape of my operation. My segment is about five minutes, and yes, I got to sit with Oprah, get my picture taken with her like a little kid, and be thrilled about seeing the perfection of spirit unfolding.
Oh, and, by the way, I finally got to give an inscribed copy of my book (through the producer) to Oprah.
I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Changing your thinking takes awareness, because negativity is deeply ingrained. But it is possible to convert counterfeit currency into spiritual capital. Here’s how. Begin each day by resolving to be the advocate for your strengths and dreams. Do this conscientiously without allowing judgment from your Committee. At every opportunity when your subconscious wants to lapse into lack and limitation, write down what you have to be thankful about. In the beginning be conscious of doing this every hour, even if you are not actively thinking about your beliefs of lack or limitation. After a few days, what you notice will begin to change.
You will be noticeably happier and more peaceful because you are connected to your “greater self” that is not focused just on you but is inclusive of all of life. Your thoughts of gratitude will gradually shift to “being” rather than having. Your horizon will change from “the right in front of you” view to a broader connection with the creative flow of love in a distinctly non-material way. This is the expression of you as both the Creator and the participant.
Soon you will become aware any time you lapse back into a negative focus on limitation, judgment, and unworthiness. If you are fantasizing about a negative outcome, immediately stop and change the thought by giving it a positive outcome. If you are awaiting an important yes or no decision, focus on a “yes” outcome, rather than thinking of all the possible reasons why you could be turned down. If you look at something in a store window and your first reaction is, “I can’t afford this,” change the thought to, “I create the prosperity to buy this and more.”
Perhaps you grew up believing in some form of the adage: “Hope for the best, expect the worst, and take what comes.” You now have the opportunity to transform this limiting belief and embrace a new, brighter guiding principle: “Envision love as an unstoppable force that creates great outcomes, be unattached to how your results look, and see only good.”

Being conscious of the oneness of all things-and our own role as a member of the whole-enables us to strengthen our social networks while affirming our participation in the flow of love. Connection opens the heart to the “greater self.” It helps us transcend our self-cherishing consciousness and move in the direction of service to the greater good. When we perceive life as unity, life in turn supports us-and sometimes in the most unexpected ways.
The power of collective consciousness transcends corporate boundaries, and manmade obstacles. Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams, authors of Wikinomics, begin their book with a story of a publicly held Canadian gold mining company that was concerned that its gold reserves would be depleted. The company was faced with the expensive and uncertain proposition of investing large amounts into exploration. But the CEO was considering another way, offering a program of collaboration and tapping into the expertise and experience of others, including possible competitors. The only problem was that he would have to open up much of the data on all their properties, which every gold mining company guarded jealously.
The CEO did the unthinkable: He put all the data up on the Internet with an offer that if anyone came up forth with a well documented proposition of where to drill on their properties, the company would share the revenues if they were successful. Instead of getting a lot of crank propositions, nearly 80 percent of the many responses they received eventually led to commercial discoveries. The company, instead of having declining reserves, nearly tripled its reserves in a relatively short period at a fraction of what they would have spent for exploration.
By seeing the power of connecting and co-creating with stakeholders, the old paradigm of “win-lose” has given way to collaboration and cooperation in many industries. For example, the communications and computer industry has benefited from doing collaborative research to set industry protocols for data, voice, and video transmission. Chipmakers are collaborating on new technologies that use light as a connector to make chips smaller and faster. The television and display industry has been able to introduce vastly improved products at lower costs through collaboration. Doing the “unthinkable,” such as sharing development costs with traditional bitter industry rivals, has had the effect of expanding the market faster for everyone involved.
